Disney/Pop Culture Song Parodies from Whitney Avalon

I came across Whitney Avalon’s amazing Youtube channel, which contains lots of great pop culture parody content that mostly centers on Disney princesses, but also includes other nerdy media (Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Star Wars).

The video above is a parody song of Beauty and the Beast set to the tune of Mulan’s “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”. I don’t know what I expected, but it had me from the moment Belle asked if this was actually supposed to be a date. It especially appealed to me in the wake of my own post a few months back, “Beauty and the Beast: This is the Wrong Story for Belle and the Beast.” It highlighted aspects of the fairy tale which I like, while ridiculing much of the ones that I don’t.

And of course, when Belle sings that the Beast is “still less of a slimebag” than Gaston, it suddenly struck me just how poor Belle’s romantic options are in this story.

Whitney Avalon also features a number of princess rap battles: Maleficent vs. Daenerys, Cinderella (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy fame!) vs. Belle, Snow White vs. Elsa. (They are generally NSFW, and the trash talking is strong.)

I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for new content from this channel. I’ll finish up this post by sharing the newest available video to date, which is something I never even imagined I wanted to see, and wouldn’t have guessed would be so good even if I’d heard of it: a parody of Rapunzel’s mother from Tangled, sung to the tune of Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.”
