Web Media Roundup: Signal Boost, Force Grey, and Jessie Graff’s Run on American Ninja Warrior

Signal Boost

This is a geeky web series on Geek and Sundry which rotates hosts, each of whom select three things each week that they think is cool to highlight. While a nice source of recommendations, what I really like about the show is the personal touches. The host’s personality comes through in their choice of humor and their scripted interactions with the staff. And best of all, there’s a transition segment between each host, which is usually pretty entertaining. For example:

As with all humor, it can be hit or miss, but I’m impressed by how much of it entertains me–especially since I can be very hard to please from a comedic standpoint.

Force Grey: Giant Hunters

Genre: Fantasy RPG web series

Synopsis: A cast of actors and comedians play a party of adventurers, put together to complete a vital mission for their nation.

Series: First season is airing.

I’ve Watched: First two episodes

Verdict: Pretty entertaining.

Nerdist is putting together a DnD campain for the summer starring Chris Hardwick (founder of Nerdist, @midnight), Ashley Johnson (Blindspot, The Last of Us), Matt Mercer (Critical Role, Resident Evil 6), Shelby Fero (Key & Peele, @midnight), Jonah Ray (The Nerdist Podcast, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail), Utkarsh Ambudkar (The Mindy Project, Pitch Perfect), and Brian Posehn (The Sarah Silverman Program, Nerd Poker).

So far, it’s fun. There isn’t a lot of time in each episode to go too deep into the characterization, but the characters’ personalities come through in how they speak, and in what they choose to do. They get in some good lines and fun hijinks.

Really looking forward to seeing more of it as it continue to air.

Jessie Graff running obstacle courses on American Ninja Warrior in Wonder Woman-themed outfit

Because obstacle courses are never more fun than when a stunt woman dresses as a superhero to run one. And takes second place doing it.
